Can you give us some tips for restaurants that will be able to accommodate us in such a large group.

Map, The most romantic restaurant in Oia, and maybe all of Santorini.

Reservations recommended.

Hey Dave!

The cheaper the place the more single-traveler friendly they feel.

Map, The best restaurant in Fira. Thanks so much ! Awesome site you have here!

Looking for a restaraunt with the best views of the sunset, within walking distance of Fira.

The taxi queue is right out the door from arrivals you cant miss it.

Volkan has the better (more complete) view but Irini gets the shade in the afternoon which is nice (Volkan can be really exposed and hot). Your website was a very valuable resource. I would stress to people that the steps to Oia Castle are extremely steep, more so than other hotels there, and I actually slipped and fell pretty hard on the way down. But I wouldnt do this if youre not arriving in daylight as Akrotiri (and hotels) can be hard to find in the dark. We are getting married at Dana Villas in September this year and we are looking for a restaurant to have dinner the night before the wedding.

Of course, will depend on the restaurant and its typical clientele. Happy to venture out of Fira .

A month or two in advance is not unreasonable for the top smaller restaurants.

Thank you once again. Good food, good prices. Closed on Mondays. Thats an early dinner but there are many early eaters in Santorini. The affordable rates, large portions, open layout, and beautiful views of the water and sunset make this a great stop for lunch or dinner. -Karma (Oia dinner only)

Hi Dave,

Id heard Nikolas was under new ownership but hadnt been in since the change.

What are some restaurants that you would recommend to us thatll he open in December? Check out Vitrin Cafe Creperie (great breakfasts, coffee, sweets, and a bar at night the best sunset spot it Oia if you manage to snag a seat), Lotza (amazing views and traditional food), Mes Amis (awesome breakfast and sweets, views are toward the domes rather than over them), and Meteor Cafe (cafe by day, low key bar at night). And Sunsets Cafe (for sunset views).

Were leaning toward Ambrosia, but curious of any other recos? But certainly there will be some good places open.

Love your website!

Katikies in Oia (Mikrasia)

Their phone number is +30 2286 071357.

Book months in advance.

Map, Fine dining located inside of a converted monastery within Firas only 5 star hotel, Katikies Garden.

Thats wonderful. Open for lunch and dinner through the week.

I have not heard this and hope its not true.

Always stay in Firostefani.

Is the taxi a reasonable price or is public transport an easy enough option? The staff at Naoussa were not what you would call friendly whatsoever, but the food was fantastic and they comped us a liter of wine. Hi Dave, It is customary to tip about 2 to 5 for a meal, maybe more in an expensive restaurant. Map, Charming, friendly restaurant with some of the best dishes in Oia. Its not one of my very very favorites but its good, for sure.

Good for lunch or an afternoon/late-night snack. Any island transport?

Thanks for the feedback. No caldera view.

Looking into making some dinner resos at the places youve recommended what time is the typical dinner hour?

Xenones Filotera is located in a quiet stretch of caldera north of Imerovigli.

Reserving 3 to 5 days in advance will be fine most of the time but if its a really special occasion then book a table weeks (maybe even months) in advance just to be sure.

Happy Holidays, Franco is a bar with good sunset views and you wouldnt need to worry about reservations (just show up early).

The cinema is in Kamari about a 5 to 8 minute drive from Metaxy Mas (but not walking distance). Wonderful spot! Since youre staying at Astra I would dine at the Athenian House just a few minutes up the path.

-Cava Alta (Pyrgos) Hey Santorini Dave!

Map, OK, maybe this place is more romantic, but theres only one table and one seating per night (8 to 11pm).

Hi Dave

But do make reservations a few days in advance for the best tables. Next year in September spending 10 days at Dana Villas.

If you cant get a table, Posidonia Taverna is steps away not as fancy but almost as good. For the quintessential blue domes, Oia has the best viewpoints, but youll need to arrive early if youre trying to see them at sunset. I truly appreciate the time you put into all this. Anything else youd recommend for the first special night after Metaxy or other options in Kamari? Ive read theres an open air cinema at Kamari close to Metaxy Mas, yet I will be staying in Oia (Fanari Villas), will it be very difficult for us to go to the theatre from there?

There number is +30 2286 071280.

We have tables booked on the cliffside for both Argo and Remvi but need to cancel one. A nice view/location would be great as well, but were flexible with that if the food is great. Many of the top Santorini hotels have restaurants with fantastic views and food.

I have read a lot of Argo. Hi Dave, I want to surprise my parents with a special dinner for just the two of them during our upcoming family trip to Santorini as they are graciously taking the whole family on vacation to celebrate their upcoming retirementwhat restaurant would you recommend for something special, great views, and that maybe caters to a private dining experience or more exclusive dining?

Thank you for the amazing website. Wonder if car rental is essential; plan on some walking but at 74 not super energetic.

Map, Kantouni is arguably the best traditional restaurant on the main square in Pyrgos.

I assume for the first special night well want to try to get a table at Metaxy.

I usually eat at 8pm which is a little early by Greek standards but since there are many tourists on Santorini works fine.

Just wanted to know which restaurant has best caldera view and bar for drinks? Map, Good food in a relaxed setting.

Its to celebrate my 60th and we may have about 20 of us there (or staying somewhere on the island) and I would like to have a cocktail party.

Id either pre-arrange something or take the bus (which passes directly by the theater) back to Fira, and then taxi or bus from there. Melissa.

It can get chilly along the caldera at night regardless of how warm it was through the day.

We will be there from May 29-June 4 and would like to nail down where we are eating for dinner ahead of time and then base our day planning around that. Im hoping to talk to the owner (we go out on May 3rd for four nights so will sort then.) It was so good that we visited the restaurant on our return journey between the port and the airport.

Map, Small, family-run restaurant on Kambia beach in Akrotiri serving delicious traditional homestyle dishes.

Map.

Hi Dave! We are staying In Fira at Aressana Suites Hotel this October and we have a few questions for you if that ok?

You wont have time to make it from Oia back to Fira in time to get back to your ship, so youll need to watch from Fira.

Hidden in the lanes below the castle in Pyrgos this super-friendly restaurant has some of my favorite dishes in Santorini.

Greece Santorini Best Restaurants

The rooftop views from Argo are fine but I would still call them slightly obstructed.

Charming atmosphere with tables spilling out onto the sidewalk when it gets busy. There are 2 restaurants directly across the path that have better caldera views but Argo has better food modern Greek with a trendy vibe.

Delicious food. Thanks in advance, We are planning to have dinner there on our balcony with what were told is a caldera view, dinner at Remvi or Argo, and then dinner at Athenian House.

Fabulous and cheap! I understand sunset is around 8.30pm. If not, have our own area.

Thanks, Dave.

Also do you have a blog on nightlife in Santorini? Most Greek restaurants will have good vegetarian options so I wouldnt worry about finding something. Just the inexpensive ones dont.

Do you have any recommendations where we could go immediately following our wedding ceremony? Athina Luxury Suites in Fira (Esperisma, stunning volcano views), This is the best restaurant on Santorini.

The ceremony is being held at Dana Villas so in reasonable proximity to this would be handy.

Gale Hamilton. Luckys Map, Pitogyros Map, Warm, friendly, and romantic vibe with traditional Greek food and live music most nights. Options range from meat, seafood, and vegetarian dishes, with a great selection of wine. No reservations. Lotza would be good (for caldera views).

It is an ideal location to stop off between the airport and the port.

We mentioned your name to the managers in these restaurants Luckys Souvlaki, Ouzeri, Elinikon, Lotza, and Argo. Thanks! Yes, go with Ambrosia. You could go for lunch instead of dinner and that makes catching the bus much easier.

Id take the first seating as youll still be able to see the caldera though the second seating will probably feel a little more romantic.

Which restaurants would you say we cant or shouldnt miss out on? Or would you suggest somewhere else? Or ask anyone, and theyll point you in the right direction. Just as good but not quite so easy to find is Ouzeri. Like Steve above, we also ate at Luckys and other recs like Naoussa and Ouzeri in Fira. Map, Fantastic family-run taverna serving homestyle Greek food on Akrotiri beach, and just minutes from Red beach. Which of the restaurants listed or not listed would have the best sunset view and food, keeping in mind we have an

-Ouzeri (Fira) Reservations recommended for dinner but not usually necessary for lunch.

Expect slow friendly service.

We visited Santorini for a week in early October (after spending a week in Mykonos) and found your information and advice to be right on target. Thanks so much! Laurel.

I saw your comment regarding Roka, and was wondering if it was OK for younger (pre-teen) kids. Desserts are amazing too. Its about a 1 minute walk from the station.

Map, Wonderful Greek food with a trendy modern vibe.

Could you also recommend a bar somewhere to party afterwards?

I read on a trip advisor review that Nikolas Taverna in Fira has closed? Great Blog! Which restaurants (of your faves) will still be open on the weekend of November 24-27?

Hi Dave, only just found your blog.

Or if you have other suggestions for a venue, I would love to hear them.

Reservations recommended.

My husband and I will be in Santorini on our honeymoon August 16-20th and will be staying in Oia (Kastro Oia Houses). As long as youre arriving before 10pm you should be fine walking out the door and getting a taxi (though a queue can develop especially if youre not the first ones to grab your bags and get out the door).

You order at the cash register then place your receipt on the bar near the cook. Not many restaurants have sunset views in Oia (most look back into the caldera). Another option is Volkan on the Rocks in between Fira and Firostefani, a casual brewery with an awesome menu of light bites, stellar views, and an outdoor cinema. We are meeting friends for a birthday lunch. A perfect evening (away from the caldera) would include a meal at Metaxi Mas and then a late-night movie at the outdoor cinema in Kamari (about a 5 minute drive away). Andronis Luxury Suites in Oia (Lycabettus)

Your email address will not be published.

aldemar village olympian royal hotel resort hotels map peloponnese greece We have been there 4 times and love the place.

Map, The best caldera and sunset views of any restaurant in Santorini.

And just to be clear its not a beach more of a port.

Most of them (lets say 80%) should still be open in early November. We do eat diary, and will also be venturing to Oia, and Fira as well, but Imerovigli will be our home base.

For a club my favorites are Two Brothers and Tropical.

Have just had a meal at Nikolas Taverna in Fira and had fantastic grilled octopus and chicken cooked in the oven with lemon and herbs.

Were a month out from our honeymoon trip and finalizing some reservation details.

Enjoyed fresh octopus, lamb kleftika, and of course 1.60 beef skewers at Luckys for late night noshing.

Reservations recommended if you want a table along the edge.

Tropical Bar (in Fira with great views) is probably the best place to meet other solo travelers.

I have this page on Santorini Weddings.

Im not sure how busy the holidays get.

The food is delicious and the hosts are extremely friendly and hospitable. Hi Dave, been reading a lot of the post on your blog in planning a trip later this month and must say I am really impressed by your efforts in providing incredibly useful information. santorini thera amphora geometric archaeological museum greece

The big bright sign makes it look very touristy (almost questionable) but the food is great and moderately priced.

Enjoyed eating a massive platter of prawns, mussels, fish, salad, bread at nearly midnight with our toes in the softest sand right on the beach. Map, Fresh seafood and Santorinian flavors at an idyllic beach location about a 10 minute drive directly east of Fira.

I was looking forward to going there after reading your recommendation. Hey Dave! LOVE your blog! Be sure to visit Gavalas Winery. I dont know of any restaurant that has a dress code.

Map, The best Italian restaurant in Santorini.

Also roughly how much would a bus/taxi cost?

Very nice, intimate, wonderful views.

Would highly recommend.

Good food, reasonable prices (for Santorini), partial views, and plenty of room for 30 to 40.

There is Avocado which has great food and a taxi can pull right to its front door but its across the street from the cliff. Good for last minute seating and large groups. Both are in Fira. High chairs are common in Greece but not universal.

It sort-of looks out on the caldera but I wouldnt call it a view (that said, youre just 40 feet from great views).

We will be visiting at the end of September so sunset will be ~7:10pm. Id really like somewhere with amazing caldera views preferably in Fira as we are staying there. The decor, open layout, convenient location, and super-friendly staff make this a great place to wine and dine. Leah.

We had the Kleftiko and lambchops which were a bit better than at Yialos. E.g.

We are looking to book somewhere now.

Argo feels a little fancier and food is even a little better but its view is a somewhat impeded by other buildings.

Walking back to Fira, obviously, is all downhill and much easier.

Specializes in meze, small dishes ideal for sharing. Well be staying in Imerovigli, and I already booked dinner reservations for our other nights for the whole group at Argo, Mezzo, and Metaxy Mas.

Astra Suites in Imerovigli (Five Senses) We are going to Santorini next week but am worried as it is winter and we know many places will be closed.

I know Luckys is always open in December but as for sit-down restaurants it changes every year based on the whims and plans of the owners. Fun and friendly. -Athenian House (Imerovigli dinner only) I name-dropped your site at Oia Castle and the manager knew of you and your visit. There will be 27 of us and we would be interested in fun and lively restaurant, without a caldera view. Im traveling to santorini for 2 nights solo.

most informative information around, thanks!! You really made my trip!

We will be coming in on the bus from Perissa and our friends will be coming in on the bus from Imerovigli somewhere nice with good food but not too far from the bus station. Ulla Hiltula. We would like to make a booking at Katina on Ammoudi Beach. Modern Greek with a French flare. Required fields are marked *. In Pyrgos, about a mile away, though a tricky walk since there arent sidewalks for much of the route.

Thanks

Remvi has the tastiest food.

1/6/17. I would do the earlier time as its a beautiful spot when the sun is still out.

(And youll still need dinner reservations for Metaxy Mas even though its off-season.

Charming, quiet location.

Very nice. Were looking to come there in May-June of next year. Both the gyro places in Oia feel comfortable for solo travelers: Pito Gyros and Nikos Place. Nikolas does sometimes close for the slower months so perhaps they confused that with going out of business. Argo is much better than Remvi. It would be good if it was a lively place with music as the evening goes on.

Mary Kays in Oia is similar (but no views).

The sooner the better. Back to restaurants though, the waiters at Ouzeri were fantastic..the brothers remembered us and called out to us as we passed by the next day. Thanks, and negotiate some kind of set menu with some wine on the table so we can keep control of the cost!!! Im celebrating my 40th in Santorini, staying in Oia.

Since it will be just the two of us, we are wondering what to do following the ceremony and were thinking with the sun already having set, a nice dinner out is really our only option.

We had the monkfish and mussels, lambchops, pizza, Greek salad, and wine thereperfection! Thank you so much for all the helpful information.

More of my favorites here: Santorini Wineries. Sunset is at 8:37pm on June 13th. Most Santorini restaurants will take credit cards.

There will be about 80 of us so it would be good to possibly fill an entire place?

And is it easy for us to get a cab in both Oia & the theatre area? Open lunch and dinner.

Hi Dave, Im getting married in Santorini at the Gem in two weeks.
